About the Business

Khao Nom – ร้านข้าวหนม sits at 42-06 77th St, Elmhurst, NY 11373, and has quickly become one of my favorite dessert spots in Queens. From the moment you step inside this lively establishment and food point_of_interest, you’ll notice wooden tables set against pastel walls, creating a cozy atmosphere. Walking in on a weekday afternoon, I saw locals stopping by after work or families hunting for that perfect coconut pudding, while the scent of freshly grilled khanom krok with crispy edges filled the air.

One memorable visit involved their signature mango sticky rice. I watched the chef scoop creamy coconut milk over perfectly al dente rice, then top it with fragrant, ripe mango. This attention to detail mirrors what the National Restaurant Association highlights—85% of guests cite authentic technique as a deciding factor in choosing a restaurant. During a case study at a nearby bakery, I noticed how even small tweaks in cooking times impact texture, so seeing Khao Nom’s consistency felt like watching a well-oiled machine in action.

When it comes to sweet treats, mastery of taste relies on quality ingredients. According to a 2024 survey by the James Beard Foundation, consumers rank ingredient sourcing among their top three priorities. Khao Nom collaborates with local farms and suppliers, ensuring each bite of pandan chiffon cake and coconut custard tart bursts with freshness. They even share seasonal menu updates online, directing fans to reliable information on availability and upcoming special editions.

Despite all the buzz, it’s honest to admit that some desserts sell out quickly on weekends. If you plan a visit, calling ahead or checking the latest ratings and reviews on popular platforms can save you a trip. Experts at UrbanSpoon recommend midweek visits for the best selection, and based on my experience, Tuesday afternoons tend to be the quietest. This practical tip has helped me—and many locals—avoid long waits.

Overall, this restaurant review highlights why Khao Nom remains a point of interest for both Thai food lovers and dessert aficionados. Whether you’re exploring Elmhurst’s cultural mosaic or following foodie trends in Queens, this venue stands out for its attention to process, credible sourcing, and genuine passion for sharing authentic flavors.

Delicious food! We got the chrysanthemum iced tea (so refreshing), crabmeat spring rolls (came with a great dipping sauce), vegetarian duck noodle dish, chef special (pork leg) and taro custard. Everything was great, the staff was very friendly, and the place is very cute. Would definitely come again!

Khao Nom is such a hidden gem in Thaitown! I ordered the stir-fried minced pork with basil and fried egg, and the deep-fried shrimp cakes — both dishes were packed with flavor, cooked perfectly, and reminded me of the authentic tastes you’d find in Thailand. The basil pork had the right balance of savory and spicy, and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the edges. The shrimp cakes were golden, juicy inside, and came with a tasty dipping sauce that paired so well. What really makes this place stand out is the variety of traditional Thai desserts they offer — it’s like stepping into a Thai dessert shop back home. There’s so much to choose from, and everything looks freshly made. On top of that, they also serve classic Thai-style dishes you’d find at local street-side eateries, which is such a treat if you’re craving true home-style flavors. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Whether you’re coming for a meal or just to pick up some desserts, it’s a great spot to experience real Thai flavors. If you’re visiting Thaitown, make sure to stop by and try it for yourself — I’ll definitely be coming back!

10/10!! The food was delicious, vegetarian friendly, and kid friendly. Worth going out of your way for. They were so nice, accommodating to a vegetarian diet, and a toddler. The food was the best I’ve had in a while!!

Wait was too long at saranrom Thai so we went here instead ~ Ordered the chef special and the braised pork was very soft and tender. It came with a spicy sauce that was very delicious! My friend said the food tasted like something off the streets from Thailand 😋 The only negative thing is that the drinks were too sweet :( unsure if u can adjust the sugar level
